Coaching for Secondary and Post-16 Students with EHCPs
Our coaching service is designed for secondary and post-16 students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) who benefit from structured, goal-focused support.
Coaching supports young people to develop independence, self-awareness, and practical strategies to manage the academic, social, and emotional demands of secondary school and further education.
Coaching can be used as part of the special educational provision to support progress towards specific EHCP outcomes, particularly in relation to:
Executive functioning, including organisation, planning, and time management.
Emotional regulation and self-management
Self-advocacy, pupil voice, and understanding individual strengths and needs
Confidence, motivation, and resilience
Preparation for transitions and increased independence, including preparation for adulthood
We work collaboratively with schools, families, and relevant professionals to ensure coaching is person-centred, outcome-driven, and clearly aligned with each student’s EHCP. Progress is reviewed in line with agreed outcomes to support sustained and meaningful development.
Coaching vs Mentoring
– What’s the Difference?
While mentoring focuses on relationship-building, emotional support, and guided development over time, coaching provides a more structured, outcome-focused intervention.
Coaching supports young people to identify barriers to learning and engagement, set achievable goals, and develop strategies to meet agreed outcomes.
For some secondary and post-16 students with EHCPs, coaching may be particularly beneficial as it:
Promotes increased independence and self-advocacy
Focuses on clear, measurable outcomes linked to EHCP targets
Develops problem-solving, reflection, and decision-making skills
Supports transitions, examinations, and preparation for adulthood
Encourages young people to take active ownership of their learning and wellbeing
Coaching is often most effective where EHCP outcomes require increased independence, transferable skills, and sustained progress towards long-term educational, social, and developmental goals.
